Peer Pressure
I'm thinking about -- considering -- joining myspace.
I know. It's the devil. Bad layouts. Questionable content. Younger crowd.
Which brings me to my question. I feel like I'm too old to be on myspace (since I'm not trying to promote a band or something). How old is too old to join myspace or facebook?
All my friends are doin' it. So I might, too.
Pros? Cons? Don't care?
(In the meantime, mosey on over to this guy's myspace page. I don't know who he is, but it's some pretty good music, in my opinion.)

Well-written, punchy commentary -- this is the stuff good blogs are made of.
As far as the actual content goes -- I've struggled with this thought myself, believe it or not. I sometimes want to join just so I can talk to friends I haven't seen in over 10 years. Maybe it's worth it for that. But then I do think of the bad layouts and questionable content. Do I really want to be a part of that virtual institution? The answer I keep coming back to is a resounding no. But do it if you want. It's not the worst thing you could do. I will not join, and I'll try not to tease you for doing so. :)
Hi Lauren,
I haven't talked to you in a while so I will put in my two cents. I think that it is solely acceptable to go into myspace and a way to reconnect. I reconnected with Mark after eight years and after only a few months we are totally in love with each other. Yes, this totally sounds like an eHarmony commercial, but if there is a nagging "what if?" in the back of your mind, it could be worth it. And, you don't have to keep it forever. I will probably take my profile down in a couple of months because I don't really use it for anything now. I also have a facebook profile solely so that I can get the free 25 songs from iTunes every week. Good times.
What?!? You get 25 free iTunes downloads a week if you're on facebook?!?
I think I actually am going to join myspace. But I've made fun of people on myspace for so long. I'm gonna have to eat some serious crow.
(Kasey, good to hear "totally in love." Dang you! :) )
Myspace is ok, really. I started an account last Fall so I'd have something to distract me late at night (pretty much the same reason I created the LDSLinkup account). If not for Myspace I wouldnt've reconnected with my friends Mirabai, Lauren MO and Bobby.
Most of my "Friends" on Myspace are between my own age and 30, so I wouldn't say you're too old. And you can set your profile to private so you don't have an endless stream of morons and hucksters contacting you, asking you out or telling you how "fly" you are.
If it makes you feel any better, I think I have the same feelings towards Blogger that you've had towards Myspace.
I also think its a good idea to join the minions. I have been on myspace and have reconnected with so many people that I've lost count. The good of it out weigh the bad, for me at least.
PS if you do join up resist the urge to personalize and muck it up. Many of us hipsters are realizing that a plain profile is the new awesome. :-)
Okay. It's official. I'll join myspace. But all of you people have to be my friends.
Send me your myspace URLs. (Kasey, I already have yours.)
And, yeah, I'm definitely going for a regular white background. No doubt about it.
