I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Of course, you have to be careful when you fist meet, but why not? I agree with Sara - you don't want to just meet people in the standard places like a bar.
I'm anti--I have a hard enough time opening up to a guy I see in person. A guy I met online would never have any chance of finding out anything significant about me.

I'm pro. All the way. The more people that are in your finding pool the better the chances that you'll meet someone.
You can't argue with statistics. :-)
PS Since I don't go to bars the mormon equivalent is the library...which is where I met my wife. :-)
